마리나갤러리는 2026년 7월 18일부터 8월 16일까지 이민수 개인전 《남아 있는 시간(Time That Remains)》을 개최한다.

이번 전시는 작가가 최근 선보이고 있는 간결한 추상 회화로 이어지는 이전 작업의 흐름을 조명하는 자리다.

이민수는 길과 풍경, 그리고 그 안에 남겨진 시간의 흔적을 통해 경험과 기억이 축적되는 과정을 화면에 담아왔다. 화면 속 길과 구조, 반복되는 형상들은 특정한 장소의 재현을 넘어 서로 다른 시간과 감각이 겹쳐지는 공간으로 확장된다.

이번 전시에 소개되는 2023~2024년 작품들은 작가의 조형적 탐색이 변화하고 확장되는 중요한 시기를 보여준다. 풍경과 기억의 흔적은 점차 응축된 형태로 변화하며, 현재 회화 작업의 정서적·조형적 기반을 이룬다.

《남아 있는 시간》은 사라진 것이 아니라 다른 형태로 남아 있는 시간과 감각의 흔적을 바라보며, 과거와 현재의 작업이 연결되는 흐름을 보여준다.

 

Marina Gallery presents LEE Minsu’s solo exhibition
《Time That Remains》, from July 18 to August 16, 2026.

This exhibition explores the artistic progression from the artist’s earlier works toward his current practice of concise abstract painting.

Lee Minsu has reflected on the accumulation of experience and memory through paths, landscapes, and traces of time. In his paintings, paths and structures move beyond the representation of specific places, becoming spaces where different moments and sensations overlap.

The works presented in this exhibition, created between 2023 and 2024, reveal an important period of artistic exploration. The traces of landscapes and memories gradually transform into condensed forms, becoming the emotional and visual foundation of his recent abstract paintings.

《Time That Remains》 presents the traces of time and sensation that do not disappear, but remain in different forms and continue to connect the past with the present.

내년의 약속에서 시작된, 올여름의 〈남아 있는 시간〉

처음 작가의 작업실을 찾은 것은 내년에 예정된 신작 전시를 준비하기 위해서였다.

작업실 벽면을 가득 채운 대형 펜화 드로잉들 — 점과 선이 촘촘히 쌓여 만들어낸 유기적인 형태들 앞에서 우리는 한참 동안 이야기를 나누었다.

그러다 문득, 이 작업들이 어디에서 시작되었는지 그 뿌리가 궁금해졌다. 이전 작업을 보고 싶다는 요청에 작가가 꺼내 보인 것은 강화도 수채화 연작이었다.

그 길 위에서 만난 사람들, 계절마다 달라지는 풍경, 그 안에 담긴 유년의 명랑함. 맑고 투명한 물성 뒤로 펼쳐진 넉넉한 여백을 마주한 순간, 한여름의 전시가 떠올랐다. 그렇게 올여름의 전시가 구상되기 시작했다.

두 번째 방문은 그 구상이 하나의 전시로 완성되어가는 과정이었다. 벽면을 채운 드로잉과 크로키, 오랜 시간 축적된 작업의 흔적들 사이에서 작가가 지나온 시간과 현재의 작업이 어떻게 이어지고 있는지를 다시 바라보게 되었다.

실제의 장소에서 시작된 길은 어느 순간 하나의 풍경을 넘어, 기억과 감각이 켜켜이 쌓인 시간의 풍경으로 변해가고 있었다.

작품의 제목부터 서문, 전시의 흐름까지 작품 자체에 온전히 집중하며 처음부터 다시 정리해 나갔다. 그 과정에서 함께 공감했던 말이 있다.

“작가는 그저 작품 속에서 은밀한 존재감으로 머물러야 한다.”

화면 속 여백은 비워진 공간이 아니라, 관람자의 기억과 경험으로 채워질 자리일 것이다.

내년 봄 새로운 작업을 선보이기 전, 작가의 작업이 시작된 풍경을 다시 만나는 전시.

7월 18일, 그 여정을 시작한다.

From a Promise for Next Year to This Summer’s Time That Remains

My first visit to the artist’s studio began while preparing for a new exhibition planned for next spring.

Surrounded by large-scale pen drawings covering the walls—organic forms built from countless dots and lines—we spent a long time talking about the artist’s current practice.

Then a question arose: where had these works begun? In response, the artist brought out an earlier series of watercolors painted on Ganghwa Island.

The people encountered along those paths, the changing seasons, and the quiet brightness of childhood memories revealed another beginning. Standing before the generous spaces and luminous transparency of those paintings, the idea for this summer’s exhibition emerged. That was the moment Time That Remains began to take shape.

My second visit was devoted to refining that idea into an exhibition. Among drawings, sketches, and traces of years of work, I began to see more clearly how the artist’s past and present are connected.

The paths that began in real places had gradually become landscapes of memory, sensation, and time.

As we reconsidered the exhibition from the beginning—from its title and curatorial text to the rhythm of the installation—we kept returning to one shared thought:

“An artist should remain as a subtle presence within the work.”

The empty spaces within the paintings are not simply blank; they are places to be filled with the viewer’s own memories and experiences.

Before the artist unveils a new body of work next spring, Time That Remains offers a chance to return to the landscape where that journey first began.

The journey begins at Marina Gallery on July 18.
